How To Check Fuses:

  1. ENSURE EQUIPMENT IS UNPLUGGED FROM ELECTRICAL POWER
  2. Remove fuse. If fuse is blackened or broken, or if you cannot see the very thin fuse wire through the glass, or if the fuse wire is broken, then the fuse needs replacing.

When replacing fuses, always replace the blown fuse with a fuse of the same size and voltage range, and identical fuse rating and type. The voltage, fuse rating and fuse type are usually stamped on the fuse's metal ring. If your fuse is illegible, the fuse specs may be printed close to the fuse holder or in the equipment manual (You still have the manual don't you?)

Fuse Specifications:

  • Fuse Size: 5mm x 20mm glass fuses or 6mm x 32mm glass fuses are used in most electrical equipment. UK mains plug fuses are usually ceramic 6mm x 25mm (1").
  • Fuse Voltage: Usually between 220v to 250v. Any fuse voltage within this range is OK
  • Fuse Rating: The fuse rating is expressed in Amps (A) or if below 1A, in milli-amps (mA). A fuse rating of 1A (amp) = 1000mA (milli-amps). Replacement fuse must be identical rating or very slightly less than original fuse. Do not replace fuse with one of a higher amp rating.
  • Fuse Type:
    Fast blow / quick blow (F)
    Slow blow / timed delay (T)
    If no F or T then assume fast blow
